Investigators cleared the immediate vicinity in Terminal 5, where international
flights arrive and depart. Wendy Abrams, spokeswoman for the city’s Department
of Aviation, said the response to the “vibrating bag” did not affect
operations at the airport. “It was someone’s property,” Officer
Marcel Bright said. “There was nothing dangerous in it. Someone walked
away and forgot it.” Police did not have to destroy the bag. The area was
declared safe at 9 a.m.
