Sphenopalatine Ganglion Blocks are used to trwat a wide variety of disorders including:
- Headaches
- Cluster Headaches
- Migraines
- SUNCT
- Anxiety
- Phobias,TMJ pain
- Fibromyalgia
- Trigeminal Neuralgia
- Eliminates 1/3 of Essential Hypertension
- Phobias Many other disorders
Stuttering is frequently more severe during period of stress especially associated with public speaking. Self-Administered SPG Blocks are excellent for address anxiety and phobias related to public speaking. Phobias and Anxiety are both disorders of Sympathetic Overload.
I have anectdotal reports of Stuttering improving after use of SPG Blocks for Treating or Preventing Migraines.
Relief of Anxiey and development of a state of calm and decreased anxiety are common.
The beauty of SASPGB or Self-Administered SPG Blocks is that patients who stutter can easily self-administer a block thru their nose with a cotton-tipped catheter and lidocaine.
The Sphenopalatine Ganglion is the largest Parasympathetic Ganglion of the head but it also contains Somatosensory fibers of the Trigeminal Nervous System and Sympathetic fibers coming up from the entire Cervical Sympathetic Chain including from the Stellate Ganglion passing up thru the chain into the Superior Cervical Sympathetic Ganglion to to the Sphenopalatine Ganglion.
Stellate Ganglion Blocks used to treat CRPS or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome but an accidental discovery being investigated in Veteran and Military hospitals is a single Stellate Ganglion Block curing PTSD.
I have anecdotal reports from patients of elimination and decrease in stuttering after SPG Blocks. I believe they are related to reduction of Sympathetic overload and anxiety. They may also be related to Limbic system changes. We feel pain, emotion and phobias in our Limbic System.
I will be writing a more detailed article with literature citations at www.SphenopalatineGanglionBlocks.com
