Untreated Sleep Apnea and Alzheimer Disease: One more reason treatment is imperative!

An interesting article in Neurology: “Assessing the Overlapping Brain Pathologies in Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Alzheimer Disease”

It is extremely important that Sleep Apnea treatment should be nightly.

Decreases risks from all causes of death including Covid and protects the brain.

Unfortunately only 25% of patients with sleep apnea wear their CPAP nightly.  Oral Appliances are a comfortable alternative to CPAP, especially for mild to moderate sleep apnea where they are considered a First Line treatment.

Over 90% of patients prefer Oral Appliances to CPAP when offered a choice.

A chronic cough can be related to Sleep Apnea related GERD or Slilent Reflux.
That said, I would suggest being evaluated by an ENT or a pulmonologist to rule out primary causes.
They may want to look with a scope which is a simple straight forward procedure.
