Suntheanine® Shows Promise as a Natural Relaxant and Sleep Aid

Scientists from Sweden had found a new way to help people who suffer from insomnia. They discovered that blocking the hormone Orexin in a part of the brain that coordinates sleep and wakefulness, our emotions, sex life and satisfaction from food lead to deep sleep not only in rats or dogs, but in people as well.
An experimental drug that attacks schizophrenia from a completely new angle appeared to work safely in patients, without some of the annoying and dangerous side-effects of older drugs. Eli Lilly and Co. tested the new drug against its older drug Zyprexa and found it did not relieve the symptoms of schizophrenia as well, but also did not cause many of the side-effects, such as weight gain, cholesterol and hormonal changes.

Pregabalin was approved on June 21 by the Food and Drug Administration for the management of fibromyalgia. It is the first drug approved for this condition.
The FDA based the approval on two double-blind, controlled trails of approximately 1,800 patients. Studies have shown that patients with fibromyalgia “have decreased pain after taking [pregabaldin], but, the mechanism by which [pregabaldin] produces such an effect is unknown,” according to a statement issued by the agency.

These journalistic approaches result in forms of public panic, following which patients often are frightened of taking any medications. Using antidepressants increases the risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior among young adults but lessens it for seniors, the Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday.
The effects of antidepressants on adults from 25 to 64 were mixed, so much so that the FDA would only conclude the drug had a neutral effect on suicidal behavior for them but possibly lowers the risk of suicidal thoughts.
